Definitely a saga, and one crying out for a big budget TV or film cross-over, I have just found out that I have only read 1 of FIVE.
The first book alone was huge and covered so much that I may well have been scared to pick it up had I known I was buying into such a large series.
That said I would heartily recommend that you did - you will be thrown into a time you couldn't know otherwise, and will learn a lot about Aztec life and history along the way.

All written through the eyes of one humble character, Mixtli, it is a tale that mirrors the rise and fall of the mighty Aztec civilization.
It is well written so you really feel for the characters, despite the historical disconnect.
Hard to separate the history from the fiction in this one, but it really paints the picture of Aztec life - whether accurate or not is hard to say.

The story has myriad twists and turns, moments of comedy and also of shock - while you may already know the ending, you won't begrudge the journey there.

Available at all good book stockists - ask me nicely and I might share a copy (some pdfs below).
